Cosplay Props and Armor

Odd Conjuration offers FDM (filament) manufacturing of cosplay, prop, and armor pieces with our ABS material.  ABS give parts proper sanding capability.  While you technically can sand PLA, if you’ve tried to, you know it’s horrible.  Sanding PLA quickly clogs sandpaper and using powered sanding can melt the PLA and create globs instead of smoothing it.  ABS can be sanded with powered tools without these issues.  This makes post processing much faster and easier.

Since cosplay armor is usually pretty big, large models must be split into parts that fit within our maximum build area.  The maximum build area is 300mm x 320mm x 325mm.

Another benefit of ABS is durability.  While still being very lightweight like PLA, it is more durable.  This means your parts and armor are much less likely to break and need repair or replacement.

For our ABS prop and cosplay production, we use our 0.6mm nozzle and 0.3mm layer height to keep build times and costs down.  This makes pretty visible layer lines, but it makes more sense to reduce your part costs with larger layer lines if you’ll be sanding them.  We can offer our smaller layer heights of 0.24mm for the 0.6mm nozzle or 0.2mm, 0.16mm, or 0.12mm with the 0.4mm nozzle reducing the layer lines, but this will significantly increase costs for large parts.

If you’re looking for a source for digital 3D models for props and armor, we haven’t come across more than one yet. Bigfredscustoms.com offers quite a few models for movie props, armor, and helmets.  For droid fans, droiddivision.com offers quite a few digital models.  If you’re aware of others we should list, please let us know at workshop@oddconjuration.com.  Thank you!
